BODY HAIR TRANSPLANT

Just as the term signifies, body air transplants refer to those hair transplant surgeries that involve the extraction and insertion of hair follicles on the body apart from the scalp. It should also be noted that body hair transplants are mostly conducted due to cosmetic reasons.

The loss of hair due to alopecia areata, hormonal imbalances, trauma, and so on are some of the major factors that cause hair loss in the different body parts.

In other cases, the surgeon may recommend body hair in case of extreme hair loss on the scalp which is androgenetic alopecia.

What Is A Body Hair Transplant?

A body hair transplant is a surgical procedure that restores hair in any part of the body. These surgeries are conducted in different parts like the beard, chest, mustache, and eyebrows. These surgeries also require an evaluation and they require hair follicles depending on the extent of the hair loss.

When Is Are Body Hair Transplants Possible?

They are possible in case of the following;

⦁    Presence of scars in the scalp that are created following a hair transplant.

⦁    In the case of thinning in the donor region of the scalp.

⦁    In the case of improperly formed hair or thinning in the chest, beard, mustache, and eyebrows.

⦁    Irregular shapes of the beards, mustache, and eyebrows.

⦁    In other cases, a body hair transplant is possible in case the surgeon wants to obtain more hair for a scalp hair transplant.

Techniques of Body Hair Transplants.

During a standard body hair transplant, hair follicles are extracted from the donor region which is usually the back of the head to the required region like the chest, beard, or the eyebrows.

The procedure is normally under local anesthesia performed using tools between 0.75ml and 1ml or tools which are a little thicker.

Normally, body hair transplants are performed using the Follicular Unit Extraction approach (FUE) and the hair grafts are directly inserted into the tiny holes made in the recipient region.

Surgeons use hair from the back of the scalp because body hair is usually of a lower quality than the scalp hair.

With body hair transplants, the surgeon plants more hair in the recipient region than the required number.

Any Side Effects?

Stitches and scars in the donor area are the major issues however they heal within a few weeks.

Bleeding is another problem that a patient may experience but the surgeon will help you manage it.
