Scar On The Skin- Scar Reduction

Out of an attack on the skin, wounds are formed and the skin repairs it’self, or as the healing process goes on, scars are left behind. But, the degree of scarring only results from major wounds but not minor ones.

In other times, scratches, surgeries, acne, and diseases can result in scars in the face or any other part of the body.

The Formation of Scars On The Skin.

When the deep thick layer of the skin is damaged “dermis” then the scar is formed. The body forms new collagen fibers; which is a naturally occurring protein in the body to repair or mend the damaged skin which leaves behind a scar.

The formed scar tissue will have a different texture than the surrounding skin. It should be noted that there are different types of scars; although most scars are pale and flat.

Some of the scar types include keloid and hypertrophic scars.

Treatment Of Scars Or Their Reduction.

Scars can be treated in two major ways which include surgical or non-surgical approaches.

    Surgery.

The surgical means of scar elimination are only used to alter the shape of the scar or make it less noticeable. It is not recommended for minor scars, keloid scars or even hypertrophic scars.

    Topical Treatments.

Over the counter, treatments can also be used to reduce the visibility of the scar and these may include; cocoa buttercream, vitamin E, Aquaphor among others.

    Steroid Injections.

Injecting steroids into the scars may help flatten and improve their appearance. However, this should be done by a qualified doctor.

    Dermabrasion.

This non-surgical scar treatment approach involves the removal of the surface of the skin using a special equipment.

    Laser Resurfacing.

Similar to dermabrasion, this technique uses lasers to remove the surface layers of the skin. There are different types of layers used by doctors but the latest lasers may help achieve subtle results.

Other types of scar reduction approaches may include;

    Microneedling.

    Cryosurgery.

⦁    Filler Injections.

⦁    Radiotherapy among others.
